Minister Conducts Field Visit to Monitor Tomato Supply in Kuwait

The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Al-Boudai, carried out a field visit to review tomato production following a slight shortage observed in local markets. The shortage was attributed to the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, along with the transition phase between two agricultural harvest seasons.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the ministry explained that such shortages are normal and linked to the agricultural production cycle. The visit reflects the ministry’s commitment to closely monitoring market conditions.

During the tour, the minister visited the central vegetables and fruits auction market (Al-Fardah), where he reviewed daily operations and supply levels. Officials reported that approximately 3,500 pallets of locally produced goods are traded daily through farmers.

The minister also inspected tomato supply volumes, noting that around 34,000 cartons were available at the Wafra Company auction, while the Kuwaiti Farmers Union auction recorded about 16,000 cartons. These quantities are expected to increase in the coming days.

As part of the visit, the minister met with farmers in the presence of the Union’s President, Ahmed Al-Adwani. Discussions focused on production conditions, supply consistency, and challenges faced by the agricultural sector. The minister praised farmers for their ongoing efforts to strengthen food security in Kuwait.

According to the ministry, local tomato production is expected to reach at least 350 tons per day in the near future, which will help stabilize supply, meet consumer demand, and support price stability.Stay informed about Kuwait’s latest financial news, visa updates, and job openings by joining our WhatsApp channel:
