Kuwait bachelor housing crackdown:Following the demolition of 67 dilapidated buildings in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, authorities have noticed a growing movement of single men into nearby private residential neighborhoods, including Khaitan, Al-Firdous, Al-Andalus, Al-Rabia, and Al-Omariya. This development has prompted concerned government bodies to intensify efforts to curb the spread of bachelor housing in areas designated strictly for family residents.
As part of the government’s ongoing initiative to protect the urban character and ensure the comfort and security of citizens, Kuwait Municipality has continued its monitoring campaigns targeting violations related to unauthorized bachelor accommodation.
Engineer Muhammad Al-Jalawi, rapporteur of the Bachelors Committee and member of the Central Operations for Farwaniya and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates, confirmed that the municipality—in cooperation with the judicial control team at the Ministry of Electricity and Water and in coordination with the Ministry of Interior—is carrying out intensive inspections, especially in the Khaitan area.
During a field campaign conducted on Tuesday afternoon in Khaitan, Al-Jalawi reported that electricity was disconnected from 14 violating properties, while 34 other properties received official warnings after being found in violation for housing single men.
He added that specialized field teams have been assigned to closely monitor private residential areas, with clear instructions to intensify inspections and fully eradicate the spread of unauthorized bachelor housing. The areas witnessing the highest concentration of violations include Khaitan, Al-Firdous, Al-Andalus, Al-Rabia, and Al-Omariya. In recent days, 18 warnings were issued in Al-Rabia alone following the observation of negative behaviors affecting residents’ comfort and overall quality of life.
Al-Jalawi emphasized the municipality’s strict stance, stating that there will be no leniency toward violators. He urged property owners to rectify violations promptly, saying: “Do not wait for government agencies to reach your property. Once they arrive, you will have reached the final stage where there is no room for excuses. Restore your properties to their correct licensed condition before legal action is taken.”
He also confirmed that field visits revealed the displacement of many workers from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh into private residential zones due to the recent demolition operations. He stressed that the municipality and the government will not tolerate the transfer of such violations to family neighborhoods, noting that an integrated team has been formed to address and prevent the spread of this phenomenon.
Municipality Continues Inspections: 45 Abandoned Vehicles Removed in Mubarak Al-Kabeer
The Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality announced that field teams from the Public Hygiene and Road Occupancy Departments are continuing their intensified inspection campaigns across all governorates. These efforts aim to monitor and remove violations related to public hygiene and road occupancy, while strengthening the supervisory role of the regulatory bodies responsible for enforcing municipal laws.
The municipality explained that the Public Hygiene and Road Occupancy Department in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate carried out extensive tours in residential areas to enhance cleanliness, remove obstacles affecting road safety, prevent visual distortion, and stop the dumping of waste outside designated containers.
The campaign led to the removal of 45 abandoned vehicles, including cars, scrap materials, boats, commercial containers, and motorcycles (buggies). Additionally, 48 violations were issued for public cleanliness and road occupancy. Inspectors also placed 64 removal stickers on abandoned cars and illegal commercial containers. As part of the cleanup effort, 134 old containers were replaced, and 142 new containers were installed.
