WhatsApp Introduces ‘Group Message History’ Feature to Help New Members Catch Up Quickly

In a move aimed at improving the group chat experience, WhatsApp has announced the launch of a new feature called “Group Message History.” The feature is designed to help newly added members quickly understand ongoing conversations without the need for manual message forwarding or screenshots.

According to WhatsApp, this update is one of the most requested features for group chats. With the new option, group administrators and members can choose to share recent messages with someone who has just joined the group.

When a new member is added, an option will appear allowing the group to send a portion of recent messages. Users can select anywhere between 25 and 100 recent messages, ensuring that the new member gets enough context about the discussion while avoiding unnecessary clutter.

This update aims to simplify the onboarding process in group chats. Instead of asking others to explain what was discussed earlier or scrolling endlessly through old messages, the new member can immediately review the most relevant recent conversations.

WhatsApp also emphasized that privacy remains a top priority. The Group Message History feature continues to be protected by end-to-end encryption, just like all other chats on the platform. This means only the intended recipients can view the shared messages.

To maintain transparency within the group, all members will be notified when a message log is shared. The shared history will include clear timestamps and sender details, and it will appear visually distinct from regular messages to avoid confusion.

The company confirmed that the feature has begun rolling out gradually and will become available to users worldwide over time.

With this latest update, WhatsApp continues to enhance user convenience while maintaining strong privacy standards in its messaging services.
