Job Purpose

The Staff Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality nursing care across the continuum of patient care. This role encompasses direct patient care, patient and family education, care planning, clinical evaluation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

The Staff Nurse will promote and uphold SSMC’s mission, vision, and values, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Scope of Practice defined by regulatory authorities in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. This position requires a commitment to professional ethics, patient advocacy, and excellence in evidence-based nursing practice.

🔎 Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Diagnosis

Conduct comprehensive assessments covering physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
Utilize evidence-based assessment tools and validate findings with patients and families.
Identify potential risks and prioritize patient needs accordingly.
Ensure accurate and compliant clinical documentation.
Care Planning & Outcomes

Develop culturally appropriate, individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and healthcare teams.
Establish measurable, standardized outcomes.
Continuously evaluate and modify care plans based on patient response and condition.

Implementation & Care Coordination

Deliver evidence-based interventions and treatments in a timely manner.
Administer medications and perform clinical procedures according to established protocols.
Ensure clear communication across care teams and during clinical handovers.
Maintain accurate electronic documentation.

Health Education & Promotion

Provide tailored health education using effective teaching strategies.
Empower patients and families with self-management skills.
Evaluate learning outcomes using feedback methods such as teach-back.

Evaluation & Quality Improvement

Monitor patient progress and revise care plans accordingly.
Participate in patient rounds and interdisciplinary discussions.
Contribute to performance improvement and quality initiatives.
Engage in evidence-based practice and research activities.

Leadership & Professional Practice

Serve as a professional role model within a safe and collaborative work environment.
Supervise junior nurses, practical nurses, and students.
Participate in shared governance and decision-making.
Uphold professional ethics, patient advocacy, and safety standards.
Respond effectively to emergencies as per hospital policy.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
OR
Diploma in Nursing (minimum 2 years) with:
- Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia
- Valid and current national license
Minimum 2 years of post-qualification clinical experience
(Experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges after internship completion)
Valid BLS certification

Preferred

ACLS and/or PALS certification relevant to specialty area
