Two arrested in Shuwaikh for selling used tires as new

Two individuals were arrested in Shuwaikh Industrial Area for selling used tires as if they were new, in a serious case of commercial fraud.

The arrest came during a joint inspection campaign carried out by the Security Directorates Sector in cooperation with the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department. During the operation, authorities discovered around 1,200 used tires stored in containers, ready to be reintroduced into the market.

Investigations revealed that the accused had been tampering with the expiry dates of the tires using specialized materials, making them appear new. This deceptive practice not only misleads consumers but also poses a major safety risk. Worn-out tires can significantly increase the chances of road accidents due to reduced performance and unsuitability for driving conditions.

A case was registered under “Possession or Sale of Used Tires” in accordance with Article 16, Clause 5 of Ministerial Resolution No. 216 of 2024. The suspects have been detained and referred to the relevant authorities for legal action, which may include deportation.

The Ministry of Interior أكد that inspection campaigns will continue in coordination with concerned authorities to combat commercial fraud, protect consumers, and strictly enforce the law.
