Kuwait visit Visa:Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has clarified the conditions under which a visit visa may be converted into a regular residency permit, according to Article 16 of the residency regulations. The update outlines five specific situations where visa conversion is permitted, addressing practical needs and exceptional circumstances faced by expatriates and government entities.

1. Government Visit Visa Holders

Individuals who enter Kuwait on government visit visas issued to ministries, public authorities, or state institutions may convert their visas to residency.
This is allowed only if the applicant:

Holds a university degree or technical specialization, and
Secures approval from the Director General of the General Administration of Residence Affairs.

This provision aims to support government bodies in retaining qualified professionals without requiring them to exit the country.

2. Domestic Workers and Similar Professions

The Ministry confirmed that domestic workers and workers in similar categories may convert their visit visas into residency permits, in line with existing regulations.
This allows families and employers to complete residency procedures without additional travel.

3. Family Visit Visa Conversions

A visit visa — whether issued for family visits or tourism — may be converted into a residency permit if the visitor is joining an immediate family member who already holds legal residency in Kuwait.
This provision is widely used by expatriate families seeking to reunite without lengthy travel requirements.

4. Work Visa Cases With Urgent Travel

Individuals who entered Kuwait on a work visa and initiated the residency process but had to travel urgently may convert their visit visa upon return.
This conversion is allowed only if their stay outside Kuwait did not exceed one month.
The regulation ensures flexibility for workers who face sudden emergencies.

5. Exceptional Circumstances

The Ministry noted that the Director General of Residence Affairs retains discretionary authority to approve other visa conversion requests.
