Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is an international airport located in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The airport features two passenger terminals along with dedicated cargo facilities, aircraft maintenance services, and aviation training centers. Over the years, it has evolved into a growing aviation hub serving both passenger and cargo operations.

📜 History

The airport was inaugurated in 1976 by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad Al Qasimi.

In 2007, RAK Airways launched operations with the airport as its hub. However, the airline suspended services in 2008 due to the global financial crisis, relaunched in 2010, and ceased operations permanently in 2013.

In 2014, Air Arabia began commercial operations from Ras Al Khaimah, operating flights to destinations across Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Bangladesh. Ras Al Khaimah was designated as a hub for Air Arabia for a ten-year period.

The airport also expanded its focus toward cargo operations, particularly supporting businesses operating within the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone.

In July 1998, a Ukrainian Ilyushin Il-76 cargo aircraft crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff due to overloading. Tragically, all eight crew members onboard lost their lives.
