Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, officially inaugurated the Kuwait Geopark on Thursday in the north of Kuwait Bay, marking a significant step toward promoting Kuwait’s geological, historical, and cultural heritage.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Kuwait State Television, Al-Mutairi said the project reflects the strong support of the political leadership for national initiatives and aligns with the Ministry of Information’s strategy, implemented in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, government entities, civil society, and the private sector.
A National Project Highlighting Kuwait’s Heritage
The minister explained that Kuwait Geopark provides comprehensive educational content about the land and human history of Kuwait, confirming the country’s geological importance. He stressed that the project goes beyond education to actively support tourism development by offering integrated services and facilities.
Al-Mutairi highlighted the role of institutional partnerships, noting that cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company enabled the project to be completed in record time. He added that all institutions now have the opportunity to participate in developing future phases of the project.
Integrated Tourist Destination
According to the minister, the geopark showcases Kuwait’s national identity, craftsmanship, and heritage, while private-sector participation enhances visitor services and supports tourism growth. The project is currently in a trial operation phase, ahead of welcoming the public next Wednesday, with visitor feedback set to play a key role in ongoing development.
He also confirmed the involvement of several government bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, Fire Force, Ministry of Health, Kuwait Municipality, and the Ministry of Public Works, whose infrastructure efforts transformed the site into a fully integrated tourist area.
Booking Dates and Visitor Information
Bookings for Kuwait Geopark visits will open on January 4 through the Visit Kuwait platform. Visitors will be received at the site starting January 7, under an organized system designed to ensure a complete educational and tourism experience.
Project Scope and Vision
The Kuwait Geopark is a national initiative overseen by the Ministry of Information and implemented by Kuwait Oil Company in partnership with the Kuwait Society for Earth Sciences and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters. It aims to strengthen Kuwait’s position as a global destination for geology, archaeology, environmental, and human heritage.
Located in an area of high historical and environmental value in northern Kuwait Bay, the geopark is linked to archaeological sites dating back to ancient civilizations of the Arabian Gulf, adding strong cultural and historical significance.
The first phase of the project covers 20 square kilometers, while the second phase will extend to 1,000 square kilometers. Facilities include geological and heritage attractions, cafés, restaurants, craft shops, and a stargazing platform—making Kuwait Geopark a unique desert-themed destination that supports ecotourism, scientific research, environmental awareness, and economic diversification.
