Kuwait Fire Department:Kuwait City: The General Fire Force has urged desert visitors and campers to exercise caution and strictly follow fire prevention and safety guidelines during the current camping season to protect lives and property.
Director of Public Relations and Media at the Fire Force, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday that selecting safe camping locations is one of the most important safety measures. He stressed the need to avoid flood channels, hazardous areas, and to ensure the safety of electrical wiring, as well as the proper use of outdoor-approved lighting and heating devices.
Brigadier Al-Gharib emphasized that fires should only be lit in designated areas and must be completely extinguished before sleeping or leaving the campsite. He also warned against using stoves inside tents or enclosed spaces, noting that carbon monoxide emissions pose a serious risk of suffocation and death, especially when ventilation is poor.
He further highlighted the importance of supervising children and keeping them away from fire sources. Campers were also advised to follow official safety instructions, particularly during unstable weather conditions, which can contribute to the rapid spread of fires.
The official warned against camping near ground openings and cracks, which may harbor insects, rodents, and poisonous reptiles. He also stressed the importance of keeping campsites clean, removing dry grass, and choosing locations far from power lines to reduce fire risks.
Brigadier Al-Gharib revealed that during the 2024 camping season, the Fire Department responded to 61 fire incidents at camping sites, most of which were caused by failure to comply with safety and fire prevention procedures.
He added that the Fire Force has launched an awareness campaign titled “Camp Safely”, alongside ongoing inspection tours and awareness visits to camping areas, aimed at promoting a culture of safety and reducing potential risks.
The Fire Department confirmed that firefighting teams are on standby 24/7, urging the public to report emergencies immediately by calling 112.Stay informed about Kuwait’s latest financial news, visa updates, and job openings by joining our WhatsApp channel:
